Don Ward
“I like to think of my works as “visual impressions”. They are my responses to imagery that I encounter. Hopefully they are painted in a way that rings to the viewer the interest, beauty, or drama that I experience.”
Born in 1947, Don Ward attended Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, California, on the GI bill, where he received a BFA with honors in 1973. After a career in freelance illustration and outdoor pictorial advertising in Los Angeles, Don decided to pursue the life of a “fine artist”. In 1985 he moved with his wife Blanca, and their two young children, to Taos, New Mexico, where they still live.
Don has instructed both portraiture and landscape painting classes for the University of New Mexico/Taos campus, and taught “plein-air” workshops throughout the southwest, where his gallery representation is located. He also held weekly figure drawing and painting groups from 1987 until 2004. Don has since directed all his artistic energy toward his own work.
